About

Lachlan Montie

Lake (they/them) is a queer, multidisciplinary artist and advocate based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their work explores the nuanced experiences of living in a trans, diabetic body, with the objectives of supporting community mutual aid, advocacy, and education. Lake’s work examines concepts related to gender and sexuality, care work, community building, liminality, and body politics in the context of diabetes, healthcare, and accessibility.

Their work seeks to create a laminant liminal space, where:

  • Laminated structures are built up of layers | we recognize the multiplicity and contradictory facets of identity
  • Lamination is a process of layering material to create a composite strength and stability | we are grounded in collective care
  • Assembled with permanency, with heat and pressure | we exist in the face of forces working against us
